CONNECTION by Federico Boccardi

Connection is a short film by Federico Boccardi, also known as Underskin, that delves into the intricate and invisible bonds that tie us together. At its core, Connection is a love story—an exploration of an inalienable tie that persists despite the barriers between two worlds. The film portrays a blind and exhausting search for connection, where body and space become a universal language, transcending the visible and exploring the unseen. Through this collaboration, Federico Boccardi and Berlin-based movement director Marie Zechiel craft a visual narrative that pushes the boundaries of perception. Marie Zechiel s contribution to Connection is integral. Her movement direction breathes life into the film’s abstract themes, allowing the characters to convey profound emotions without words. The choreography she developed plays a crucial role in expressing the deep, almost primal yearning for connection, using the physicality of the body and the environment as the primary mediums of communication. In this film, the body is not just a vessel but a storyteller, navigating the complex relationship between the self and the other. Marie s work with the performers enables them to embody the tension, longing, and eventual realization of the invisible bonds that the film seeks to illustrate. Her expertise in movement direction transforms the space around the characters into a living entity, one that interacts with and responds to the emotions portrayed on screen. Connection is a testament to the power of collaboration between visual storytelling and movement direction. Through Marie Zechiel s choreography, the film transcends the limits of the seeable, offering viewers a glimpse into the profound connections that exist just beyond our perception. The result is a captivating and emotionally resonant piece that lingers in the minds of its audience long after the final frame.
