A Myriad Mind – a fashion Dance Film by Movement Director Marie Zechiel

Berlin-based performer and movement director Marie Zechiel’s latest visual narration, A Myriad Mind, takes viewers on an intense journey through the subconscious. This captivating one-shot composition portrays the momentum of our internal and eternal discussions, diving deep into the challenges our minds face while negotiating diverse beliefs. The film is a bold and imaginative exploration, visualizing five dancers locked in a space representing our innermost selves. These dancers, longing for balance, navigate recurring loops as they explore fundamental beliefs, embodying the chaotic society of the mind. Marie Zechiel choreography is sharp yet unifying, perfectly capturing the confusion and the desire for inner harmony that defines our mental landscape. The dancers’ movements, guided by Zechiels precise direction, bring to life the ongoing struggle within our minds to reconcile competing thoughts and emotions. A Myriad Mind was realized through a remarkable collaboration between Marie Zechiel, director I AM JOHANNES, and DoP Lasse Liebelt. The projects unique vision required a specially designed room without an entrance, built by Lothar Heinert, to fully realize the concept. The five dancers, along with the camera and lighting crew, were locked inside the space, necessitating a secondary choreography to ensure perfect timing and the seamless revelation or concealment of elements. This intricate coordination was essential to creating the film’s illusion and bringing its profound themes to life. The film has garnered attention on the festival circuit, with screenings at numerous prestigious events, including Moving Images Videodance Festival 2024, Dance Days Chania Video Dance 2024, and the InShadow Lisbon Screendance Festival 2023, among others. Marie Zechiel role was pivotal; she conceived the film, choreographed the performances, and directed the movement, making A Myriad Mind a true embodiment of her artistic vision.
